Glass, Vinyl & Screen Enclosures

Extra living space not only increases the value of your home, it provides additional enjoyment for you and your family. If you've ever contemplated adding a playroom for the children ... relaxing in a new study ... or entertaining friends and family with a backyard barbecue completely protected from the environment, you've also considered the cost. Home additions using conventional construction methods can be quite expensive. They often require reconstruction of your home, and end up being a major disruption to your life-style.

McRae and Co. offers a unique enclosure system that can save you as much as 50% over conventional construction methods, and has the design flexibility that very few systems can come close to matching. All of our glass, vinyl and screen enclosures are custom designed to fit the exact size and specifications you need. The pre-assembled module wall units and unique, patented snap together roof design, make construction quick and easy. In as little as a day, you can be enjoying your new enclosure.

Your new addition will also be able to withstand the toughest of nature's challenges. All Snap-N-Lockā„¢ Insulated Roof Panels are put through extensive and rigid testing to ensure they continue to meet or exceed building code requirements. The continuous design of the roof and the tight joint connection are the keys to its superior building performance and energy efficiency. The wall modules are constructed from heavy-wall aluminum extrusion. When joined together, the wall modulars form posts, adding strength to the walls of your enclosure.

The high insulation performance of the roof will keep you cool and comfortable. And with a few simple design considerations, you can enjoy your new room year-round. Run your air conditioning in the hot summer months, or heat your room during the chill of the winter. And because all panels and extrusions are coated with the highest quality, baked enamel finish, you will enjoy many years of maintenance-free beauty. An occasional light pressure wash may be needed to rinse dirt from exterior finish.

Why have a pool cage?

A well designed pool enclosure (pool cage) can transform your backyard pool into a beautiful extension of your home, beautifully decorated and free from pesky insects, unwanted critters, and all the wind born debris that can turn your playground into a daily chore.

The average unscreened pool requires about 15 minutes of maintenance each day, or about 1 1/2 hours a week. That's 78 hours a year of your time that could be better spent enjoying your pool, not cleaning it, and a pool cleaning service can cost $100 a month or more. At that rate your pool enclosure will pay for itself after a few years.

You still have to maintain the water quality with chemicals, or any number of systems, but the truth is, the biggest single contributor to a pool gone bad is stagnant leaves and debris, and it can happen almost overnight.

Screened pool enclosures keep that risk to a minimum, and require fewer chemicals, saving you even more. Your deck area will rarely need more than an occasional hosing down to keep it clean and will remain unstained for years.

Another advantage of a screened pool cage is the safety factor. Most building codes require that your enclosures have self-closing doors, and the door handles have to be 54" above the deck, with a catch and lock. This greatly reduces the risk of a small child or pet wandering into your pool area.

One of the biggest arguments against screening a pool is the reduced water temperature. Yes, the screen does block out a small percentage of the light, but this more affects the length of the swimming season then the temperature, because most pools tend to get uncomfortably warm at the peak summer months. In reality, you only loose a few weeks at each end of the season.

This can easily be overcome with a solar heating system, and there are many tax incentives available, further lowering the cost, sometimes to nothing. Throw in a gas heater and an easy to remove insulated blanket and you can swim year round, and the added cost is minimal, considering your overall investment.

Wood VS. Aluminum

Are you considering adding a screen room to your home? Before you begin, there are some things that you need to know:
Screen rooms can be used for porches, small pet areas, hot tub areas, and plant growing areas. Although there is some aesthetic appeal to a wooden screen room, the value ends there. When you are making an investment of this magnitude, you should get the most out of your money. When you buy a wooden screen room, you are getting more than just the wood; you are getting all the liabilities that come with wood as well.

Unlike aluminum, wood is susceptible to things like insects, fading, warping and rot. Wooden screen rooms are also much more susceptible to stains and make the general cleaning of the room more difficult, as there are certain types of cleaners that will damage your wood. Wood also will splinter or crack as time passes. It is also much harder, if not structurally unsound, to make the large windows that are possible with the less fragile aluminum screen rooms.

With a McRae and Co. custom screen room, you will get a beautiful room that you can potentially enjoy all year long. When you choose aluminum, you keep the bugs from eating you and your screen room. If you have pets or children running around, the aluminum is easy to clean and you have the option of the added protection of the various sized of kick-plate. Also, as with most vinyl and aluminum products, your screen room will be low maintenance with such features as being easy to clean and it never has to be repainted. Offered in a variety of colors and styles, it will allow you to choose the room that best suits your personal taste.

McRae and Co. also offers several window options, both vinyl and glass, tinted and transparent, that can turn your screen room into a year-round fixture. These windows have the added benefit of being able to be custom designed to almost any size that you want!

So, when it comes time to make your decision, keep in mind the facts mentioned. Aluminum screen rooms are much more durable, easier to clean and more easily custom built than its more fragile wooden counterpart. Let this screen room add durability and resale value to your home.
